11/19/2023 0 Comments Splatoon 3 gameplay![]() What it lacks in new ideas, it more than makes up for with sheer fun. Splatoon 3 may be Nintendo’s safest sequels in years, but it’s also one of its most tightly designed. ![]() Its astounding gameplay and abundance of distinct modes make the game hard to put down. Whether you're a newcomer or a returning veteran, Splatoon 3 is sure to hook you right from the start. From the much-requested ability to skip tedious cutscenes, to the new training room that lets you hone your skills between online matches, Splatoon 3 makes dozens of small-but-meaningful tweaks to an already highly polished formula. Returning players won’t find many new ideas in Splatoon 3, but it's impossible to gloss over the wealth of quality-of-life improvements. The issue creeps up in the single-player campaign a little too often as well. But when you run around Splatsville, the framerate can slow to a near-crawl. Thankfully it’s almost never an issue in multiplayer matches. Textures frequently look fuzzy in the distance, and the frame rate is wildly inconsistent in spots. Unfortunately, Splatoon 3 does push the Nintendo Switch’s aging hardware a little too far on occasion. The single-player campaign is virtually unmissable, and if not for its relative brevity, it alone would be worth the price of admission. Another stage asks you to coat an entire statue in ink, while also solving simple platforming puzzles. Splatoon 3s Multiplayer reviewed by Brendan Graeber on Nintendo Switch.Building from the solid foundations of its predecessors, the deluge of impressive qua. You receive a brief period of invulnerability as well, so it's useful for escaping enemy fire. This is activated by quickly flicking the Left Stick in the opposite direction of where you're moving while in Swim Form and pressing the B button. One level strips you of your weapons entirely, and forces you to rely on your throwable Cuttlefish companion to progress. One of the new movement mechanics in Splatoon 3 is the Squid Roll mechanic. Splatoon 3’s single-player is a consistent delight, serving up a series of levels that twist the core gameplay in new and surprising ways. But the campaign is much more than a dressed-up tutorial. On the surface, Splatoon 3’s single-player mode may seem like little more than a tool for new players to learn the gameplay fundamentals before they venture into the competitive online modes. Splatoon 3 review: Single-player campaign You’ll never be short of items to play dress-up with, either, since Splatoon 3 gives you a ton of unlockable gear throughout its various modes of play. Not only will you have plenty of opportunities to show off your snazzy outfits to other players, but you'll also receive stat boosts from new clothing. Customization is another core pillar of Splatoon, and you’ll want to deck out your Inkling/Octoling in all sorts of unlockable gear. 11/19/2023 0 Comments Vinyl siding colors on houses![]() Vinyl siding widths range from 4 inches to 12 inches, depending on the style. Width refers to the overall size of the panel rather than the size of the individual rows. Unlike wood siding, which comes in individual planks, vinyl siding comes in panels manufactured in sections that make up multiple rows. Higher-quality, thicker vinyl is more expensive, as is insulated vinyl or specially profiled vinyl molded to look like wood shakes, rounded Victorian scallops, brick, stone, or logs. Siding is available in grades ranging from thin builder grade to superthick grade. The thicknesses, profiles, and additional elements of vinyl siding can affect the cost of the material. A second story means the installers will need ladders and safety harnesses, while eaves, gables, and corners add material costs and additional labor time. In addition, homes with more complicated cuts and applications will be more expensive to side. Homeowners can expect that cost to double for a 2,000-square-foot project. For instance, for a project with a total square footage of about 1,000, costs will range from $3,000 to $12,000. The larger the home is, the more the siding will cost because of the additional materials necessary and the associated labor costs. Still, a realistic understanding of the cost factors will make it easier for homeowners to plan an accurate budget and prevent them from having to make snap decisions that cost more than expected. Less expensive isn’t always better if homeowners are sacrificing the quality of materials or labor. Exactly how much does vinyl siding cost? The typical range of vinyl house siding cost is $6,370 to $17,615, averaging out to $11,676 nationwide, according to Angi and HomeAdvisor.Īccording to Dunn, “Vinyl siding has the lowest installed cost of any home exterior cladding material, giving homeowners lasting curb appeal and value from day one.” Even at this lower price point, vinyl siding has a wide cost range that represents many variables, some of which the homeowner will get to choose, and some of which are less flexible. Doing a little research on the cost of vinyl siding and available options will help homeowners make the best choices and save money. It’s also versatile enough to help create any architectural style.” But how can homeowners decide if it’s the right choice for their home? There are certainly pros and cons to vinyl siding, and the wide range of costs reflects the variations in the market, the style of the home, and aesthetic preferences. According to Lisa Dunn, communications director at the Vinyl Siding Institute, “It’s inexpensive to maintain because it never needs painting, caulking or repointing like other exterior cladding. A far cry from the strips of shiny, pastel-colored plastic it once was, vinyl siding has come a long way since its inception-much of today’s vinyl siding is difficult to discern from other exterior treatments. 11/19/2023 0 Comments Timeless skin care promo code![]() Halloween Sale! The reasons are so simple that you can probably already guess: cost, nutrition, sugar and other additives, and flavor. If you’re nervous about it being unpasteurized, make sure you’re getting a reputable brand like Braggs – which I used continuously throughout my pregnancy, to give you an idea of how safe it is – or just get a pasteurized product and forgo the probiotics. Pasteurization kills bacteria in the vinegar, including the good bacteria. Quick note: make sure you are selecting a raw (unpasteurized) apple cider vinegar, preferably an unfiltered one that still has the “mother” (blob of starter) in it. So I try to work them into my diet as much as I can, including – yep – on my salads. What we know, with certainty, so far is that fermented foods are good for you. Yeah, I can’t either.įermentation produces bacteria that is beneficial to digestion and numerous other bodily functions that we’re still trying to understand (since science is nowhere near grasping the full impact of the microbiome on your overall health). Can you imagine the American healthcare system doing that. For reference, I got food poisoning in Europe in 2005 and was prescribed probiotics as a matter of protocol. That’s why the bottles you buy always say “#%” – the number is what percent of the solution in the bottle is pure vinegar, and the rest is water.įermentation, as you probably already know, produces an abundance of probiotics, or good bacteria, something that Americans are just recently realizing the health benefits of. What is Apple Cider Vinegar?Īpple cider vinegar, sometimes known as “cider vinegar” is a pungent liquid made from fermenting apple juice into highly acidic vinegar, then diluting it with water. It’s quick and easy to make, keeps in the pantry or cabinet for months and, is made from apple cider vinegar (not, as the name may initially appear to suggest, apple cider) which provides a pleasantly fruity tang and, as an added bonus, a healthy dose of probiotics*. So, salad it is.Įvery time I share a salad on Instagram, someone asks about the dressing and the answer is always the same: it’s homemade apple cider vinaigrette. ![]() Please forgive the exceedingly boring nature of this recipe – at least on the surface, although the flavor would beg to differ – but after innumerable batches of cookies, cake, and more cake (<-this one was especially hard to cut into an eat, but we persevered…) – my body is begging for mercy in the form of anything crunchy, green and packed with nutrients. ![]() That’s it! It’s gluten free, paleo, and vegan, and easy to adapt to be sugar free and Whole30-compliant, too! Just pour all of the ingredients into a container and shake or stir. There will be no reason not to make your own salad dressing once you see how easy this apple cider vinaigrette can be. 11/19/2023 0 Comments India ink painting![]() Learn from Chinese and Japanese painting traditions – not necessarily in terms of style but certainly with regards to your command of the brush. Black ink can have a very warm tone, which isn’t sufficiently intense, so I tend to add mid-blues and sometimes a little red such as Process Magenta or some Burnt Umber.” 12 Try a new base Embrace ancient traditions For example, if I’m using a base ink of Payne’s Grey, I might add some Burnt Umber or some red inks to counteract the blue bias of the Payne’s Grey. 11 Try a new baseĪrtist and printmaker Pamela Grace gives some advice on how to use ink: “I generally use Payne’s Grey or Black ink as a base, but I will add other FW Acrylic Artists’ ink colours to give a more subtle, interesting mix. In order to create a cohesive and balanced artwork, it can be best to work up line and wash in alternate layers on top of one another. There is no fixed order for line and wash work, although be warned that washing colour on top of black lines can often dull them so it helps to consider this when planning a drawing. ![]() One of the most popular ink techniques is the line and wash method – mixing dark lines with washes of dilute colour (either ink or watercolour). ![]() If you make a mistake, just accept it and work with it often the mistakes are the best bits. ![]() This gives the lines more freshness and a sense of life. As you get more confident, however, it is much more satisfying to just go for it. If you are just starting out and a bit nervous about not being able to undo mistakes, try sketching in pencil first before drawing over the top with ink. Any paper that’s too absorbent will cause the ink to bleed. If you want to try working in this way, opt for a ‘sized’ paper – paper with a resistant gelatine layer. Working on a wet surface will give you much less control over how the ink behaves, but this can be part of the fun of experimenting. Just like watercolour paint, ink reacts differently if it is applied wet-in-wet rather than wet-on-dry. If you’re in a hurry to dry your ink, use a hairdryer. Always remember to watch your arm – you don’t want to swipe your sleeve across the wet ink. Wet ink must be handled with even more care once it has been applied to the paper. Keep stepping back from your work as you build it up and stop applying ink when you’ve reached a good balance of light and dark. It’s very easy to over-darken using pen and ink yet virtually impossible to reverse it. Working tonally can be very expressive, and the trick is to use dark ink and then dilute it to indicate the lighter areas of the subject. 6 Manage your tonesĪ common question is how to use ink to create different tones. But be prepared to make mistakes while using ink: the reward for going wrong are drawings full of the sort of spontaneity, passion and rawness rarely seen in carefully plotted pencil work. This might seem scary at first and can discourage artists from using the medium. Pen and ink marks cannot be easily undone or corrected. Cross hatching, stippling and squiggly, circular marks will all add texture, as well as build the shading and form you need. Try out different strokes while using India ink. If you are just starting out, you could try using just the tip of a finely pointed sable brush as an alternative to buying a nib. As a guide, use a reed pen for frequent, short strokes or try a round tip for wide, smooth lines. The size and shape of the nib will affect how much ink you need to use, what your marks will look like and how many times you need to dip your nib back in the ink. There are a variety of pen nibs available for drawing and each offers a different effect. When all else fails, resort to the white ink pot. If you blot it straight away, the ink will get into the paper. After this it is safe to blot to absorb any remaining unwanted ink. Rough paper makes it easier to lift off the ink – first use a moist brush to absorb excess ink and then flood the area with clean water. Heavy grade, roughly textured watercolour paper is useful for making corrections. Waterproof inks are best for line work while water-soluble ink should be used for washes. India ink is a standard staple for ink artists – it’s permanent and waterproof. Whether you’re a beginner wondering how to use drawing ink or want to improve your India ink techniques, this expert guide has some useful advice which will help boost your skills.Ĭhoose your inks to suit your purpose. Life Could Be A Dream runs Wednesday through Sunday evenings with some matinees performances through August 28 at SRT’s East Sonora Theatre (13891 Mono Way). The co-founder and dance director of Studio Performing Arts in Westlake Village, his next gig is resident artist for PCPA (Pacific Conservatory in Solvang) choreographing its fall production of Cinderella. SRT fans who caught Shrek The Musical will remember him in his role as Donkey. High kudos are in order for the show choreographer-director, LA-based actor Keenon Hooks. Besides being highly credible harmonizers, all are a hoot to watch dancing in tandem. Kabir Gandhi, now in his last year of a degree in Musical Theatre at Indiana University, channels the smart-alecky, fired-up determination of Denny, well complemented by SoCal native Chris Carranza’s awkward klutziness of nerdy four-eyed Eugene and NYC-based Derik Lawson’s lovably luggish Wally. Both are Actors Equity Association members. Troy D Wallace, who plays Duke, is also a solid pro with TV and film credits, endearing vocal chops and a soft tough guy presence. Hailing from San Diego, her theatre credits are many and she’s a recording artist in her own right, who has sung backup for Stevie Wonder. In her SRT debut, Deja Fields as Lois steals the spotlight with her acting, singing and dancing. The two-hour show (sandwiched in between by a 15-minute intermission) is literally a romp that will make you want to Twist, try the Mashed Potato and Watusi, and definitely sing along to the hits among them, “Get A Job, “ “Fools Fall in Love,” “Tears on my Pillow,” “Runaround Sue,” “Earth Angel,” “Stay,” “Unchained Melody,” “Lonely Teardrops,” and “The Glory of Love.” Madcap mayhem ensues ahead of the contest along with a forbidden blossoming romance with happy endings all around. Duke, who turns out to have the best lead voice of the four young men, winds up becoming a member and Lois, who has perhaps the best voice and moves of all, finds herself crushing on Duke and coaching the group. Through Wally’s connection, the owner of Big Stuff Auto sends over his daughter Lois and head mechanic, Duke, to check out trio, now dubbed Denny and the Dreamers, as they practice in the basement. When he hears of a “Dream of A Lifetime” doo-wop group talent search contest sponsored by his fave station, Big Bopper Radio, Denny is inspired to go for it and the three begin working in tandem, honing some pretty slick harmonies while working to unhobble Eugene and Wally’s dance moves. The trio spends hours goofing around in a kitschy basement rec room that Denny’s peace-and-quiet-seeking mother is desperately trying to kick him out of so he can find a job - and she can get to her sewing machine. The plot centers around three nerdy friends, unemployed radio fan and wanna-be doo wopper Denny, and his sidekicks Eugene and Wally. ![]() Sh-Boom, first staged in the summer of 2009, also enjoyed a record-breaking (12-month) run in LA, in the process it garnered the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, the LA Weekly Theatre Award, and the Backstage Garland Award for Outstanding Musical. The Marvelous Wonderettes, perhaps Bean’s best-known concoction, won the 2007 LA Ovation Award for Best Musical following a record-breaking Los Angeles run (it continues to be an audience favorite in theatre companies throughout the country), spawning three sequels Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns, Winter Wonderettes, Wonderettes: Dream On, and Wonderettes: Glee Club Edition. You could say this sub-genre is Bean’s bag, so to speak. Sh-Boom! Life Could Be A Dream, now playing through the end of the month, is another gem by Roger Bean, the creator of the nostalgic “rock and road” musical revue Route 66 that played a few years back at Fallon House Theatre. Nostalgic and entertaining, Sierra Repertory Theatre’s latest offering is a musical revue that resurrects nearly a jukebox full of ‘50s and ‘60s doo wop hits and dance steps you never thought you knew. 11/19/2023 0 Comments Sleepy time calc![]() Your brain imitates waves just as if you were awake, with your eyes moving rapidly but still closed.
